Skating Rink
News
We are an
active skating program run by the parents of our young skaters. We are
affiliated with Skate Canada.
The 2002 - 2003 season we had twelve members. We host an annual skating
carnival which is sponsored by the Govan Optimist Club. We have
performances from our young skaters followed by races, costume judging, and
games open to the entire community.
If anyone is interested in joining our skating committee or volunteering
opportunities please contact:
Tracy Brown
Skating Club President at: (306)484-2027.
History
During the
winter season a popular place to enjoy yourself is the skating rink. The
skating rink was built in 1964 and was opened on Feb. 25, 1965.
In the winter there is always something happening at the skating rink.
Whether it is public skating, or shinny (playing hockey with no official
team).

Curling Rink
Govan has been a real curling town,
every year Govan holds a few bonspiels in which many teams from the local
area enter. We also have talented curlers who have competed at provincial
levels.
This included a group of young boys who won the Provincial Championship in
1974. The team was composed of Gordon Larson (skip), Fred Puffer (third),
Robert Martin (second), Don Dabrowski (lead), and Glen Larson (spare).
In 1954 a new curling rink was built, with better facilities. In 1955 the
new rink was opened and the old rink was moved to Duval. An interesting fact
about the Govan curling rink is, it was one of the first towns of its size
to install artificial ice.

Fiddle Festival
The Fiddle Festival is a famous
event in Govan. People from all across Canada come to compete in the
contest, in all the different age groups. Also people from all across North
America come to stay for the weekend and listen to the talented musicians.
The fiddle festival usually brings approximately 1500-2000 people to Govan.
